Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to make an appointment?

I work by appointment only, and usually book 3-9 months in advance. I start by scheduling a free consultation or talking details by email to determine your session length.

  • How do I prepare for my consultation?

At your consult, basic information, design, and budget will be discussed. Be prepared to describe the details of the tattoo you want. If you have reference pictures, please have them prepared.

  • How do I book my tattoo appointment?

At the end of your consultation, a deposit is required to secure your appointment. It's a non-refundable fee of $100 deducted from your final session.

To send your deposit when booking from out of state or by email, I can also accept PayPal or Venmo.

  • What will my tattoo cost?

I do high quality work at a fast rate and charge $180 per hour. Sessions are 3-4 hours on average. Larger designs may require multiple sessions. I quote by consultation only. Your design will be custom to you and how long it takes will depend on size, placement, intricacy, color, and design.

I don't charge for drawing time, but I do require a deposit when booking. I accept cash, card, PayPal, and Venmo. Paying cash will avoid processing fees, which average 3%.

  • Will you send me a sketch of my tattoo?

Your tattoo will be drawn up within 1 week to 48 hours of your appointment depending on client workload. Any necessary changes can be adjusted at your appointment. If major changes are required, rescheduling may be necessary.

  • Do you confirm appointments?

I book using Schedulista, which will confirm appointments and send you reminders via email and/or text message.

  • What if I can't make my appointment?

If you book an appointment, it prevents other clients from being scheduled. If you don't cancel with at least 48 hours notice, a new deposit will be required to reschedule.

You can cancel your appointment via Schedulista, but please contact me directly if you wish to reschedule via devongtattoos@gmail.com.

  • Do you do commissions for non-tattoo-related artwork?

    Not at this time.

Follow my social media @theswiftstorm for announcements regarding prints and other artwork available for purchase.

  • Can I use numbing cream?

DO NOT USE NUMBING CREAMS! The market has been flooded with many brands with unregulated cocktails of ingredients. High percentages of lidocaine absorbed through the skin doesn't only affect skin texture and tattoo saturation. It can enter the bloodstream and put you at risk for serious injury, including irregular heartbeat, seizures, chemical burns, and difficulty breathing.

You can find more information on the FDA website warning against the use of numbing creams, and a list of known problematic brands. They do not recommend use of any creams with higher than 4% lidocaine.

Also DO NOT take blood-thinning painkillers before your tattoo. Excessive bleeding can hinder the tattoo process and affect healing.

I will often apply Bactine throughout the tattoo process to provide temporary numbing, and you are welcome to take painkillers AFTER your tattoo appointment.
